User Instructions

If you have an SignSyncTM or are just considering one, you've come to the right place!

SignSync has only one control. In a dark room you may want to lower the sign's intensity. A knob on the front panel controls the sign's brightness.

Even in the display Off position, the SignSync will continue to feed captions to the sign. So when you finally raise the brightness, you will be at the correct caption.

SignSync requires only three connections to operate.

  1. Connection to the sign.  This is done with a straight through cable with a male 9 pin sub-D connector on one end and a female on the other.  Only pins 2 and 5 are used so connections can be quite simple.  We recommend twisted pair unshielded cable and runs no longer than 50 feet.
  2. A triggering event.   Captions begin when your external contact closes and releases.  An ordinary doorbell button will work just fine.  Triggering can restart the captions at any time.  The trigger is connected using a 3.5mm (1/8") mono phone plug which plugs into the SignSync right next to the sign connection.  CAUTION: Applying external power to the triggering connections will damage SignSync.
  3. Power.   A barrel type power connector with a 2.5mm central positive connection is required.  The power must be 5VDC regulated to within 5%.  We supply a UL approved Elpac model WP0605-760 power supply and strongly discourage using any other power supply.

IMPORTANT: Like most solid state electronics SignSync will be damaged by static discharges into any of its connections. Exercise extreme caution when wiring in dry environments by using a wrist grounding strap or diligently grounding yourself before handling any wires or connectors.

There are no user serviceable parts inside the case.

Preparing, scheduling, and loading captions into SignSync is done using the AutoCaptionTM captioning system.  Better caption service providers such as Armour Captioning can also do this for you for a modest charge.
